Information around Windows 12 is scarce despite its expected arrival in 2024. However, it seems that Microsoft again hinted at the future iteration of its operating system during the Build 2023 conference.
The imminent arrival of Windows 12 has been confirmed by several informants. But Microsoft is still very mysterious about it. The Redmond giant hasn’t officially announced anything yet, even if it doesn’t hesitate to sow a few clues here and there to stir things up. During Build 2023, the conference dedicated to developers, Microsoft shared a screenshot evoking a session called “Next generation of Windows”.
Enough to arouse the curiosity of participants and technophiles from all over the world. Is this a hint at the next Windows 12 iteration? A reference to a future major Windows 11 update? We tend to lean towards the first option. And for good reason, the mention “next generation” rather designates a new version.
Microsoft teases Windows 12, the launch is fast approaching
In the past, Microsoft would have already mentioned the arrival of its future OS – without naming it explicitly. During the Ignite conference, a supposed preview of the Windows 12 interface was unveiled. The opportunity to discover a taskbar and a floating search bar that clash with the usual standards. Similar to macOS, contextual information additionally appeared in the upper right corner of the screen.
With this new index unveiled during Build 2023, the imminent arrival of Windows 12 seems to be confirmed. Microsoft would however wait to advance more in depth in the development before announcing it officially. According to Windows Central, Windows 12 could be released in 2024, three years after the arrival of Windows 11.
In addition to notable aesthetic changes, the future operating system will give pride of place to artificial intelligence around which an entire ecosystem should be built. On the configuration side, Windows 12 could require 8 GB of RAM instead of 4 GB to operate.
