The latest Windows 11 update had an unexpected adverse effect. This prevents Malwarebytes antivirus users from accessing the Chrome browser. Pending an official fix, here are some workarounds.
Windows 11 is struggling to nibbling market share. The OS was only used by 22.95% of Windows users in May, compared to 71.9% for Windows 10. And it’s not the recent malfunctions that have occurred on it that will push them to take the plunge. Supposed to fix the bug preventing the copying of files, the KB5027231 update for Windows 11 has caused a lot of inconvenience for some users.
But what’s wrong? Once installed on Windows 11, the update prevents Malwarebytes antivirus users from browsing Google Chrome. Concretely, the browser window is invisible even though a task is running in the manager. Made aware, the antivirus editor confirmed that he was hard at work to resolve the problem.
The latest Windows 11 update is catastrophic for Chrome users
“We are currently experiencing issues with Malwarebytes Exploit Protection and Chrome in Windows 11 causing Chrome to crash. We believe this is happening due to a Windows Update (KB5027231) released on June 13, 2023”. points out a spokesperson on the company’s official forum. In a more recent post, he explains that a beta patch is now available.
Here is how to download this version:
- Open Malwarebytes.
- Meet in Settings > General.
- Enable beta updates.
- Then switch to In regards to > Check for updates.
- Install the beta version 4.5.31.270.
To read > Windows 11 will detect when you are near your PC, why this spying?
How to fix the problem without downloading the beta version of Malwarebytes?
If you don’t want to install a beta version, you can opt for this workaround, waiting for the arrival of the fixed stable version:
- In Malwarebytes, click Settings > Security.
- In the section Exploit Protectiongo to Manage protected apps.
- Disable Google Chrome then click Ended.
Obviously, this solution is not optimal since you will be at the mercy of malware on Google Chrome. If you don’t want to be exposed (and don’t trust Windows Defender), you can simply uninstall the KB5027231 update until a full patch arrives.
At the beginning of June, an optional update for Windows 11 had also caused a slew of problems (malfunctions of the Microsoft Store and Game Pass, applications refusing to launch, peripherals stopping, etc.).
