This lively little paper clip, known as Clippit (but who much prefers its nickname), is ready to support you in your use of the new operating system. But beware, this app is still in beta, so expect some glitches. Or rather, expect a ton of glitches.
Clippy is making a comeback: the cult icon of the 90s is coming to Windows 11
For those of you who have had the pleasure of working with Office 97, you surely remember clippy, this virtual creature who pretended to be an assistant. In theory, he was there to help you, but in practice, he was more annoying than helpful. “ It looks like you’re writing a letter »: yes, thank you, but no, I am writing my CV!
Yet despite its slightly tumultuous history, Clippy sparks a certain nostalgia today. And it’s that nostalgia that inspired developer FireCube to resurrect this 90s icon, in the era of artificial intelligence. Thanks to the model GPT 3.5 from OpenAI, Clippy comes to life as an animated paper clip that you can pin to your Windows 11 desktop, to chat with it through ChatGPT.

To use this beta version of the Clippy application, you will need an OpenAI key. This is a small inconvenience that may put some people off. But don’t worry, the developer is actively working on finding a solution to bypass this restriction and make Clippy accessible to everyone.
Soon you will be able to resize and move Clippy to your liking. FireCube is even planning to introduce other classic characters, like the famous Microsoft Bobin the adventure.
