Google is about to put End of support for Windows 8 and some versions of Windows 10 for Google Drive. The move follows Microsoft ending support for Windows 7 and 8.1 earlier this year.
Google has very quietly updated its support page for Google Drive, stating only in august 2023the company will stop supporting Google Drive on Windows 8, 8.1, and all 32-bit x86 versions of Windows, including the 32-bit version of Windows 10 (Windows 11 was never available for 32-bit PCs).

Google says affected Windows PCs will still be able to access Drive through a web browser, but that may not be very reliable for long. Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge already dropped support for Windows 7 and 8.1 this year, and most other browsers soon followed.
Firefox plans to support Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 until September 2024, but not beyond. As the web version of Google Drive requires newer browser features, it will gradually stop working on the latest versions of browsers available for older Windows PCs.

Many other apps and services are also dropping Windows 7 and 8.1, if they haven’t already. For example, Plex Media Server, which left the PS3, now requires Windows 10 or later, and Steam plans to make the same change in 2024.
