Mail and Calendar, two venerable Windows applications, will soon have to retire. These will be replaced by the new Outlook client, which will combine these two features.
Windows 11 offers many novelties. Indeed, if an optional update tends to install itself, the latest version of Windows also allows you to display a dashboard that promises to be revolutionary. It would also seem that Windows 11 aims to clean up its interface. In this context, Microsoft is abandoning Conversation. In addition, Mail and Calendar should be grouped together in the next Outlook from 2024.
Indeed, a message on the Microsoft 365 Message Center informs Microsoft 365 users of Microsoft’s plans for the new Outlook app for Windows. Microsoft will end Mail and Calendar (Mail and Calendar) within its UWP (Universal Windows Platform). Thus, from September 2024, these two applications will no longer be able to be downloaded or used. The new Outlook client has already replaced several applications in the beta version of Windows 11.
Windows 11: Outlook available for free on Mac
Windows users can download the Outlook for Windows application from the Microsoft Store. They can use the new Outlook application without being subscribed to Microsoft 365 or Office 365. This year, Microsoft has made many changes for Outlook. It is also available free of charge for Mac users.
Mail and Calendar were however default apps when Microsoft launched Windows 10 in 2015. When Windows 11 launched in late 2021, these were also part of the bundle of default apps offered by Microsoft. Then, Microsoft has started testing the new Outlook app for Windows in May 2022, when it made it available to Microsoft 365 users.
Microsoft announces as follows: From 2024, new Windows 11 devices will ship with the new Outlook for Windows as the default mailbox app, free for everyone. Mail and Calendar apps will continue to be available for download in the Microsoft Store until the end of 2024. ยป
