Mozilla has just rolled out Firefox 115. This will be the last version of the browser to work on Windows 7 and 8. As promised, users still cracking down on these aging versions will receive security updates through September 2024.
Support for Windows 7 and 8 was discontinued by Microsoft earlier this year. Both OS are now deprived of security updates. Still, many users continue to use them. While some ignore the risks, others opt for third-party services like Acros Security that provide micro-patches; which allow you to prolong the adventure without taking unnecessary risks.
Die-hards can also count on Mozilla, which has promised that its Firefox browser will support Windows 7 and 8 at least until 2024. Something promised, something due. As announced, Mozilla has just deployed Firefox 115 ESR (Extended Support Release). This will be the last version of the browser to be compatible with the two outdated OS.
When will Firefox cease to be compatible with Windows 7 and 8?
This long-term support will be provided until September 2024, when security updates will stop being sent. During this respite, Firefox 115 ESR will just send fixes and security patches regularly. It will not allow you to get the latest news and features.

To extend the Firefox adventure after September 2024, users who will still be on Windows 7 and 8 will have to set their sights on another operating system. Recall that competing browsers have also bid farewell to both systems. Google Chrome 110 notably became the first version incompatible with Windows 7 and 8.
On the gaming side, Fortnite is no longer compatible with older versions of Windows, the game requiring at least Windows 10 or a more recent version. Last March, Steam also announced the end of support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.
