Microsoft has announced big changes to the integration of Teams, its communication application. The Conversation application, which is the light version of Teams, will thus disappear in favor of the full version of Teams.
Microsoft backtracks two years after announcing Chat app integration, aka Chat, on the Windows 11 taskbar. Chat is a kind of lite version of Microsoft Teams that is dedicated to personal use. In the latest update available to Insider Program users, Microsoft announces the discontinuation of Conversation. The app will disappear from Windows 11, but Microsoft has already found a replacement for it. It will actually be replaced by the full and free version of Teams which is also used by professionals.
Activated by default and integrated into the operating system’s taskbar, the Conversation application has never met with the expected success. It may be due to the lack of features compared to the full version of Teams or the amount of RAM consumed by the app icon. Anyway, Microsoft prefers to withdraw it, but it does not give up Microsoft Teams integration in Windows 11.
Conversation is replaced by the full version of Microsoft Teams
In the Insider Build Notes 23481, Microsoft announces: Chat is now Microsoft Teams – Free. Microsoft Teams – Free is pinned to the taskbar by default and can be unpinned like other apps from the taskbar “. The Conversation icon is therefore replaced by that of Microsoft Teams. It is the same full version as the standalone application of Teams. Moreover, the Teams application will be available in mixed reality for Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
Microsoft did not give the reasons behind the disappearance of Conversation in Windows 11. It is all the more surprising that the Redmond firm regularly added new features to Conversation, whether improvements for video calls or a AI tool to generate images from a text.
It looks like Microsoft is in the process of cleaning house in Windows 11. Just a few days ago, Microsoft announced the end of support for the virtual assistant Cortana on Windows 11. The Insider build also removes old File Explorer settings. as part of an effort to clean up the number of settings for File Explorer “. The new file explorer with a more modern interface is also available for users of the Insider program.
