A few weeks after acquiring Twitter Elon Musk declared that he was going to keep one of his promises, namely restore donald trump account. The former American president, who is running for the White House for the third time, will therefore be able to tweet again.

The new CEO of Twitter made this decision after the results of a Twitter poll. This Friday, Elon Musk tweeted a poll asking users to vote on whether or not to restore the former president’s account. “Vox Populi, Vod Dei” he tweeted some time later. 24 hours after this tweet, the poll was closed and Elon Musk announced that the banishment of Donald Trump was going to be lifted.

Shortly after, @realDonaldTrump was back online, but the former president has yet to tweet anything. Donald Trump claimed some time ago that he would not return to the platform, even if his account was restored.

The option to lift the ban won with 51.8% of the 15,085,458 votes. While voting was active, Elon Musk wrote of receiving a million votes per hour, with “armies of bots and trolls” responsible for some of that activity.

Although the multi-billionaire has always claimed that he would reactivate Donald Trump’s account, he also pledged to set up a moderation council before reinstating any permanent bans. This weekend, he also reinstated some important company accounts, including those of Kathy Griffin and Jordan Peterson. At that time, no decision had been made for Donald Trump.

Still, this “return” of the former president to the platform seems more of a business decision than anything else. A way also, perhaps, to try to put the advertisers back in the pocket.
